Because I Do

This essay, Because I Do, is the companion piece to It is also the prequel to My Constituency.

It was written at the same time as I am indebted to Alan Watts who inspired this conversation.

I write these Conversations For Transformation for You.

My intention is they engage you in the reading of each one so you have an experience of a way of being transformed just by allowing their words to ripple through the oceans of your listening. My intention is they leave you with an experience of transformation rather than merely impart new information.

But that's not why I do it.

Conversations For Transformation make a difference inasmuch as they bring forth a beauty and a joy and a sublime way of being which is tangible and real. They present an opportunity which once wasn't present but is now, like a torch flame, and now is the time while it burns brightly to magnify it and make it widely available.

But that's not why I do it.

Being in Conversations For Transformation is being transformed. You're only transformed when you're in Conversations For Transformation. When you're no longer in Conversations For Transformation you're no longer transformed.

But that's not why I do it.

Conversations For Transformation aren't about  transformation. Rather, they language  transformation. This distinction is critical. It's easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than it is for a rich man, who hasn't mastered this distinction, to enter the kingdom of heaven (as Matthew the apostle quotes Jesus Christ as saying). When I language transformation, it's the most powerful, it's the most profound way I know of making transformation real for people. It makes transformation real for people in the only location anything ever makes a difference for people: in their listening.

But that's not why I do it.

So why do I do it? Why do I write these Conversations For Transformation for You? Why I write these Conversations For Transformation for You is none of the above. Why I write these Conversations For Transformation for You is because this is what I do. That's it. That's all. There's no ulterior motive. There's no "in order to".

I write these Conversations For Transformation for You because  I write these Conversations For Transformation for You. I write these Conversations For Transformation for You because I do.
