Components Of Mastery

"What is the way in which a master of life sees (perceives) life? What is the way in which a master of life makes sense of (comprehends) life? The way a master of life interacts with life  is the natural outcome  of the way a master sees  and makes sense of life."
...
"This is our home, our living room. We invite you in, welcome you to use it and make it your own for as long as you like. There is no effort necessary to get you in. Our survival is in no way dependent on your being in. There is only the intention to communicate the invitation clearly and to display the welcome mat clearly. If you pass by or choose to leave, do so with our blessings, good wishes and support."
...
This essay, Content, Presentation, Life: Components Of Mastery, is the companion piece to From Leadership To Mastery: Introducing The Mastery Course.

Werner refers to "this" ("this  is our home, our living room") at the start of the second of his two quotes above. So: what does this  refer to? Werner's this  is actually a threefold reference. One, this  is literally "our home, our living room". It's the Franklin House. No hidden meanings. Exactly what he says. Two, this  is transformation like an experience. Three, this  is the collection of Werner's programs that make transformation available in the world like a possibility.

By far, the vast majority of the people who accept Werner's invitation to come into our home / living room to experience our hospitality ie all the people who participate in the work, get a lot out of it. And look: by "get a lot  out of it" I'm really under-exaggerating: I actually mean "get their lives  out of it". The vast majority of the people who visit, come and go (his is after all an open invitation). Others may linger longer, having become inspired around him to take on mastering delivering the work in the world. Notably absent is a coercion and / or obligation to do that. The sheer joy of its calling is compelling enough.

To master delivering Werner's work in the world, consider that there'd be three components of mastery: one, you'd have to master the content  of Werner's programs; two, you'd have to master the presentation  of the material; three, you'd have to master your life  / Life itself as the showcase of the programs.

1)  CONTENT

Mastering the content of Werner's programs, the ideas, abstracts, distinctions, processes, indeed of the entire body of work / body of knowledge, calls for being facile with all of it. Unlike other programs, Werner's content isn't strategic (for the most part, participants don't even have to remember any of it afterwards). Rather, the content teases out a certain new space, a context  for transformation (so it's a transformative  context that it teases out). To do so requires a certain intentional mastery of the content (the tangible) of Werner's work so it doesn't obfuscate the context (the intangible) it teases out.
2)  PRESENTATION

Mastering the presentation of content so that it's transformative, requires becoming facile with presenting it coming from being  - distinct from presenting it coming from understanding. Look: there's nothing wrong with understanding. Mis-caricaturing understanding as "bad" has resulted from misconstruing Werner's aphorism "Understanding is the booby prize.". The fact is that presenting content while coming from understanding, ensures it is received by / enlivens understanding, whereas presenting content while coming from being  ensures it is received by / enlivens being. And it's enlivened being that's the authentic milieu of transformation, whereas understanding simply isn't transformative (that's the correct read of "Understanding is the booby prize.").
3)  LIFE

Mastering the presentation of the content of Werner's programs so that it's transformative, requires mastering your own life so that what needs to be handled gets handled, leaving you free to present the material undistracted by your life / supported by it. Any well-being issues must be addressed. Any out-integrity must be cleaned up, restored. Yes I did say "must". It's not negotiable. If your life doesn't work, presenting this material can't work. And "without integrity nothing  works". If you've mastered your life, people will want whatever you've got, even if they can't quite put a finger on what it is.

As per Werner's invitation, you're welcome to use our home / living room, and to make it your own for as long as you like. Stay as long as you like. Leave whenever you like. Return if and whenever you want to. We'll be here. And you get to keep whatever value you get from participating. It's all yours now. And if you're then inspired to master delivering Werner's work in the world, those are my suggestions for the three things you'll need to consider taking on.

The presentation, delivery, and style of Content, Presentation, Life: Components Of Mastery are all my own work.
